Municipal Museum
After years of renovation with its share of setbacks and delays, the Stedelijk Museum is finally open to the general public again. The historic building has had a complete makeover inside and out, with the museum receiving a new main entrance at the rear, on Museumplein, in the form of a large, white wing. An eye-catcher also known in the Amsterdam vernacular as "the Bathtub.
Art buffs, culture freaks, fans and lovers of the Stedelijk are welcome back after a closure period of some nine years to the museum of modern art where Bauhaus, Amsterdam School, CoBrA, abstract-expressionism, pop art, minimal art and conceptual art may finally shine again. In addition to the permanent, transformed spaces, the museum now has the largest exhibition hall in Amsterdam in the unbroken 1100 m2 basement hall, a beautiful art book store and a real restaurant and terrace overlooking Museumplein and Van Baerlestraat.
