Opera Sessions is opera in a pressure cooker: shorter and more intense. A festive way of experiencing opera! It is: eyes closed, ears open and let it wash over you. Musician Calmer Roos tells, plays and leads you past stories, unexpected insights and stirring passages. This time about the opera Pelléas et Mélisande.
A grim love story
You don't get the atmosphere of Pélleas and Mélisande anywhere else. It seems romantic, set somewhere in the Middle Ages - long, long ago, but not so crazy far from here - but turns out to be dark, inscrutable and unsuitable for the youngest viewers. The relationships are sensual but unpleasant and uncomfortable... At the center of this play walks a walking question mark: the enigmatic Mélisande. Who is she? What has happened to her? How is it that she arouses love and violence without revealing anything of herself?

A new way to experience opera
Musician Calmer Roos narrates, plays for and takes you past stories, unexpected insights and stirring passages. There will be laughter but also intense listening. How is Debussy's music put together? How does he make those wonderful sounds, so different from those of his colleagues? In short; this is a new way of experiencing opera. It is the perfect preparation for the real thing, but also the perfect alternative if you are not going to see the real opera.
