New to the Moco Museum: Yayoi Kusama

On March 22, Japan's Yayoi Kusama celebrates her 90th birthday. As a tribute to her, the Moco Museum in Amsterdam will open a new exhibition of works by the eccentric artist on that day.

A completely transformed space features the world-famous artworks Night of Stars and Pumpkin, in which polka dots play the leading role.

Yayoi Kusama says: "...a polka dot has the form of the sun, which is a symbol of the energy of the whole world and our living life, and also the form of the moon, which is calm. Round, soft, colorful, senseless and unknowing. Polka dots become movement...Polka dots are a way to infinity."

Despite her age and health, she is still active as an artist and creates new work. In her art, Kusama has transformed negative life experiences into a positive dream world and, through her works, makes a case for feminism and against sexism.

The Moco Museum is open daily from 9:00 to 7:00.
