Miniature scenes featuring toy figures are the starting point of the photographic works featured in the exhibition "American Myth & Memory: David Levinthal Photographs." The images examine American myths and popular culture sharply and carefully constructed.
This exhibition, which opens at the H'ART Museum in February 2026, presents a selection of series by photographer David Levinthal made between 1984 and 2018. Among these series are Modern Romance, American Beauties, Wild West, Barbie, Baseball and History. The miniature scenes include dolls and toys, through which Levinthal explores themes of power, heroism and identity within the United States.

The exhibition comes in collaboration with the Smithsonian American Art Museum, marking the first time the H'ART Museum has entered into a major collaboration with a European museum. Through the photography, visitors will gain a reflection on American identity and the cultural narratives that shape that identity. The H'ART Museum thus presents the European premiere of this extraordinary collection.
The exhibition challenges with images of artful miniature scenes that meticulously portray American identity and power.
This exhibition will be followed in April 2026 by a new exhibition called Radical Histories: Chicano Prints. Thus, the H'ART Museum continues its focus on international, cultural exhibitions that offer an in-depth look at identity and history.
