Nonna: Traditional Italian family restaurant anno nu

There is no shortage of Italian restaurants in Amsterdam. Yet Oud-West could still use a good restaurant with traditional Italian cuisine, actor Thijs Boermans must have thought when he saw his dream of opening an Italian restaurant come true.

With business partner Tijn Verstappen (known from restaurants Van 't Spit, Le Trout, among others, Trees, Pepito, Gertrude, Linguini and La Parole and Pazzi) Boermans recently opened; Nonna, a restaurant featuring Italian dishes as only Italian grandmothers prepare them and lovingly pass them on to the next generation of mothers.

"Nonna is an ode to all the sweet grandmothers (and wives) in the world who are unconditionally there for us and express that especially in the form of large amounts of delicious food," Boermans said.

Nonna's menu
Nonna's menu is a tasty collection of classic pastas, such as pasta carbonara, arrabiata and bolognese, and traditional dishes such as melanzane, lasagna, gnocchi and risotto. Out of the wood-burning oven they scoop pizzas according to southern Italian recipe, and to top it off there is steak and various grilled fish dishes. Pastas are served in large quantities at the table in a large pan, which you enjoy with the whole table.
