Stedelijk Base: Meet the icons of modern art
At the Stedelijk you will find the permanent exhibition "The Collection" which displays the most amazing works of art by the world's most famous artists from the museum's collection of modern art. The presentation shows very well the developments in the arts from the late nineteenth century to the present. Get to know 750 highlights of modern art history.
Stedelijk Base occupies the entire new wing of the museum and displays a selection of nearly 750 works of art, grouped around historical movements, social themes and influential artists. The exhibition includes works by such key figures as Kazimir Malevich, Piet Mondrian, Gerrit Rietveld, Nola Hatterman, Charley Toorop, Barnett Newman, Yves Klein, Roy Lichtenstein, Ed van der Elsken, Yayoi Kusama and Sheila Hicks. See Barbara Kruger's spectacular installation and art from 1980 to the present, with works by Jeff Koons, Anselm Kiefer, Maarten Baas, Nan Goldin and Marlene Dumas, among others.
Colorful mix of art in all its splendor and glory
Design and fine art are shown integrated on a large scale for the first time in the museum's history. The result is a colorful mix of paintings, furniture, jewelry, sculptures, utensils, accessories, photography, drawings, installations, video art, posters and interiors. Experience the developments in art and design, from 1880 to the present, in many highlights.
