The Duchess: royal allure in the heart of Amsterdam

Those who know Amsterdam's bustling city center know that behind its historic facades often lie special stories. In the iconic W Hotel Amsterdam, located in the former Bungehuis and the old Kasbank, you will find restaurant The Duchess: a place where history, luxury and gastronomy come together seamlessly. Since opening in 2015, this culinary hotspot has developed into one of the city's most stylish restaurants.

The Duchess exudes the atmosphere of the Belle Époque - an era of elegance, sophistication and grandeur. As soon as you step inside, you are surrounded by high ceilings, marble details and an impressive open kitchen that acts as the beating heart of the space. Here, a bespoke Molteni kitchen takes center stage, where chefs work daily to create dishes as refined as the setting itself.

The cuisine at The Duchess is best described as Nouveau-Niçoise Cuisine: a subtle mix of influences from southern France and Italy, translated into modern classics. Think richly filled Fruits de Mer, perfectly prepared grill and rotisserie dishes and desserts presented at the table - a theatrical ending to a night out. The menu is carefully constructed and characterized by an apparent simplicity in which quality and technique prevail.

The bar is also a destination in itself. At the imposing marble bar, the golden days of cocktail culture are revived. Creative interpretations of classic French and Savoy aperitifs bring a nod to the roaring twenties and thirties. For those who prefer things quieter, the elegant Tea Room offers sophisticated afternoon tea, complete with delicate pastries, macarons and exclusive teas from Mariage Frères - an experience reminiscent of a modern version of Alice in Wonderland.

“At The Duchess, past and present don't just meet - they reinforce each other into an experience that stays with you.”

Behind it all is hospitality entrepreneur Yossi Eliyahoo, known for MOMO, Izakaya and Mr. Porter, among others. His vision for The Duchess is clear: an upscale haven where quality is always the focus. And you can feel that in every detail.
