HYROX Amsterdam - where you train and how it works

HYROX is not an "ordinary" gym class but fitness racing: 1 km of running, then a workout station - and that eight times back to back. A set race format worldwide, making your times comparable and the vibe as addictive as a race. In Amsterdam, you can seriously train the format at official partner clubs and studios with HYROX programs.

First the concept, short and sweet: HYROX is a indoor race With the same sequence each time. You run 8× 1 km and in between you grab 8 stations: SkiErg, sled push, sled pull, burpee broad jumps, rowing, farmers carry, sandbag lunges, wall balls. Everyone does the same sequence; weights and reps vary by category. As a result, you can mirror your time anywhere in the world against others.

Training in Amsterdam can be done at several places. The official HYROX Partner Gyms in the city are TrainMore Amsterdam East (with Black Label HYROX zone) and TrainMore Amsterdam Sloterdijk. Both clubs have the right equipment (sled tracks, SkiErgs, wall balls, sandbags) and program HYROX-focused workouts - useful as you work toward your first or your fastest race.

In addition, there are studios that offer HYROX training. Sin City Boxing in South turns licensed HYROX classes (including run club and competition-standard gear). Classes are small, coaching tight - fine if you want to polish technique and race strategy.

Also The Workout Lab - De Pijp programs HYROX Endurance and Strength sessions. There you work through the racing elements (such as sleds, lunges and wall balls) systematically, focusing on pace and form - just what you need to get through the eight blocks flawlessly.

Why HYROX appeals. It is accessible and measurable. You don't have to be an elite athlete; the format is scalable and the atmosphere in classes is more "team feel" than "solo in the weights angle." And yes, it's intense - but the set structure makes progression tangible. After a few weeks, you notice that your sled slides faster, your wall balls are tighter and your running pace remains more constant.

Tip: periodically schedule a racing simulation (8×1 km + all stations) in your training week. This way you test nutrition, pacing and transitions - and see where you leave free seconds (often at switchbacks and ball pick-ups). And for those who really want to peak: there will be another big HYROX edition coming to Amsterdam (RAI, early 2026). Useful as a dot on your horizon.
