Won Yip opens Hazes pub and museum on Rembrandt Square
André Hazes, who hasn't grown up with it? Because the music of André Hazes in 2020 is still alive and kicking, and more popular than ever, catering tycoon Won Yip and Rachel Hazes think it is time for a real Hazes pub on the Rembrandtplein.
Ever since 2015, hospitality entrepreneur Won Yip and Rachel Hazes have been talking about a museum entirely dedicated to André Hazes' musical legacy, one year after the popular singer's death. And because a museum does not immediately bring to mind André Hazes, the two came up with the wild plan to immediately attach a pub to it to present 100% an André Hazes experience.
Rembrandtplein or Leidseplein
The location for the Hazes café and museum is not yet known, but Yip and Rachel are aiming for Rembrandtplein or Leidseplein. The opening date is also not yet known. But it will not be long in coming. The corona crisis has not done the hospitality industry in Amsterdam any good. Many catering premises on Rembrandtplein and Leidseplein will become vacant. A choice for the initiators to open the Hazeskroeg.
"Above all, it should radiate warmth and coziness," as Won Yip in The Parool. "Not too big, I was thinking of room for 150 to 200 people. Even if it's not busy, it should be cozy."
The idea of the Hazes café and museum is to let the music of André Hazes sound from early in the morning until late at night. Accompanied by the beer André preferred to drink. And surrounded by attributes from the life of André Hazes, such as photos, clothes, set pieces, golden records and videos of live performances by the popular singer. The bartenders and guides in the café and museum will tell guests anecdotes about Holland's most famous singer.
