The Roof of NEMO: The highest city square in the Netherlands

The NEMO Science Museum is so much more than just a collection of science exhibits. This summer they have a special schedule at the top of the museum. Combine your visit to the museum with a visit to the roof or just climb the stairs to the roof at night.

The roof of the NEMO Science Museum is not just any roof; it is the highest city square in the Netherlands. Architect Renzo Piano envisioned it as a lively piazza, a place where interaction is key. The Roof of NEMO is the perfect place to sit on a beautiful summer evening in Amsterdam and enjoy the view of the historic city center.

On The Roof of NEMO you'll find the open-air exhibition Energetica, where self-service sculptures introduce you to solar, wind and hydro power, and where you can learn about renewable energy. But the roof offers more than just education; it is also an inviting outdoor terrace where you can enjoy stunning views of Amsterdam while relaxing and soaking up the atmosphere.

Listening to plants
Bioto's plant listener allows visitors to experience biodiversity on the rooftop plaza of NEMO Science Museum in a new way. The sensor measures real-time environmental factors such as intensity and color of sunlight, air temperature, humidity and soil moisture and links this data to the biodiversity present on the roof. In this way, we gain more insight into the relationships between plants, animals and people, and nature becomes tangible. After all, why does a plant do well in a specific spot? When can you expect a butterfly - and why?

The Roof of NEMO is freely accessible to everyone via the stairs from the street or via the elevator in the hall of NEMO.
