Visitors to the Kabbalah tent exhibition will get a varied view of this ancient tradition, which also inspired pop stars such as Madonna and David Bowie. For the first time, an exhibition will showcase the many aspects of kabbalah in unexpected combinations of ancient objects and modern works of art.
Since the Middle Ages, Kabbalah has been the name of thousands of years of knowledge traditions by which Jewish mystics attempt to fathom existence. Kabbalah literally means "reception" and assumes that there is "primal knowledge" about God, creation and how people function. Starting in the 20th century, kabbalah reached an increasingly wider audience and also became a source of inspiration for artists, writers, filmmakers and contemporary pop icons, Jewish and non-Jewish.
The exhibition is accompanied by an extensive program of events, including the lecture Kabbalah for dummies, the Kabbalah festival and a film program at Amsterdam's Kriterion cinema.
