Gustav Klimt
Fabrique des Lumières showcases the work of Austrian artist Gustav Klimt and contemporaries. The Viennese artist's colorful work, with many decorative patterns, lends itself perfectly to the concept. Klimt was one of the key figures of the Vienna Sesession, a movement that sought to break away from academic art. The exhibition also features work by other important Viennese artists such as Egon Schiele and Friedensreich Hundertwasser, who were inspired by Klimt's work.
Jimmy Nelson
In addition to Klimt, Fabrique des Lumières is showing the exhibition "The Last Sentinals, Heroes from near and far" by Dutch-British photographer Jimmy Nelson. An overwhelming tribute to humanity. In this exhibition, Jimmy Nelson's iconic photographs of 'The Last Sentinels' are blown up to life-size proportions with a combination of photography, film, animation and sound. The exhibition is enhanced with images from Jimmy Nelson's latest project, 'Between the Sea and the Sky.'

Between the Sea and the Sky
Jimmy Nelson (b. 1967) has spent his entire life photographing original cultures, which in 2013 resulted in his first book Before They Pass Away yielded. Five years later, "Homage to Humanity" (2018) followed. Nelson places the people in front of his camera on a pedestal, giving extraordinary and often almost forgotten communities a dignified and visible platform. His passionate portraits celebrate human diversity and beauty.
For his latest book Between the Sea & the Sky (available through Mokumo.nl), Jimmy Nelson portrays 20 Dutch communities in regional and traditional costume and the environment that shaped them.
During the recent pandemic with global travel restrictions, Jimmy Nelson realized he doesn't have to travel to the ends of the earth to discover exceptional human beauty. That insight led to a new project close to home. The resulting art book Between the Sea & the Sky is an ode to the Netherlands, Nelson's adopted homeland.
Jimmy Nelson Gallery
In honor of Jimmy Nelson's new art book, Jimmy Nelson will open an art gallery for a period of four months at the Westergasasterrein, near Fabrique des Lumières. The gallery will display older work by the renowned photographer in addition to new work.
