During the weekend of September 19-21, photography museum Foam is once again organizing the international photo fair Unseen Photography Fair. A party for all photography lovers. In and around the Westergasfabriek, Unseen brings together professional and amateur photographers, photo galleries and enthusiasts, uniting the useful with the pleasant, and above all, lots of passion, innovation, amazement and fun. Unseen Amsterdam is a fair and festival in one.
Unseen, Amsterdam's leading photography fair, is striking a new path in 2025. The monumental NDSM Loods will be the setting for a renewed edition this year, in which space, perspective and experimentation are central. With five curated sections and the introduction of 'Unfold' as a platform for contemporary art, this edition promises to push the boundaries of photography.
The move to the imposing NDSM Loods in Amsterdam-North marks a new chapter in Unseen's history. This former shipyard with its industrial look and creative energy fits perfectly with the fair's innovation drive. Visitors easily reach the location by free ferry from Central Station, which keeps the connection to the city intact, but creates just enough distance for an adventurous exploration.
Unseen 2025 presents five thematic sections, each curated by an internationally renowned curator. Each section zooms in on urgent themes and offers space to galleries and artists who approach the photographic medium in their own unique way. This approach provides more depth as well as a broader palette of voices and visions.
Unfold
New this year is Unfold, a section in which contemporary art takes center stage. Since photography is often a niche program in the gallery segment, Unfold offers galleries the opportunity to show sculpture, installation and mixed media as well. This not only expands the scope of the fair, but also creates a more exciting and dynamic visitor experience.
With this repositioning, Unseen once again shows itself as a pioneer in the world of visual culture. Not by looking back, but by looking forward, with room for experiment and dialogue.
