Twenty years ago, Muziekgebouw aan 't IJ opened its doors as a new center for modern music. Since then, the building has become a fixture in Amsterdam's cultural landscape. The combination of architecture by the water, a varied program and cooperation with Bimhuis and festivals makes it one of the city's most vibrant venues.

For the jubilee year, the program is big. The program includes international ensembles, new compositions and a series of concerts that brings together twenty years of musical history. You will see both established names who have made the stage great and young creators who are defining the future.

A special component is the collaboration with local makers. Installations are placed that explore the relationship between music and architecture. There are also evenings where visual art and music reinforce each other, often in collaboration with partners from the city.

The anniversary is not only a look back, but more importantly a look forward. The Muziekgebouw emphasizes its role as a place for innovation and experimentation. This is evident in the programming: from contemporary classical music and jazz to electronic crossovers.

"The Music Building has been proving for 20 years that music can make the city vibrate."

The building itself is a highlight: the large glass facade provides views of the IJ and the city. During anniversary evenings, that setting is put to extra use, with lighting and visuals enhancing the experience. It feels festive and grand, but at the same time intimate due to the excellent acoustics of the halls.

For music lovers, this is a chance to rediscover the diversity of the Music Building. For the city, it's a reminder that 20 years of experimentation and collaboration has produced something lasting.
