In the renovated H'ART Museum, the innovation of photography comes to life. With a major solo exhibition by Jan Dibbets, visitors are taken through a crucial period in his career, during which he became a pioneer of modern art photography. Dibbets, born in 1941 in Weert, switched his momentum from painting to photography in a matter of decades, and this exhibition explores that transition in detail.

The exhibition, titled "Jan Dibbets 1966-1976 Toward Another Photography," shows the evolution of Dibbets' work during these important years. This period marks his transition from minimalist paintings to exploring photography as a medium. It was his works from Riekje Swart's gallery that put him in the spotlight for this. Those paintings, in the so-called hard-edge style, formed the basis for his later photographic discoveries.

In addition to his paintings in Riekje Swart's gallery, Dibbets was also a pivotal figure within some of the influential art movements of the time, such as Arte Povera, Land Art and Conceptual Art. These movements emerged in the context of an international artistic exchange that connected artists, curators and critics around the world. It is this context that made Dibbets' experiments with photography possible.

Dibbets' works, such as the Perspective Corrections, challenge the perception of time and space, raising essential questions about the nature of photography itself.

The photographs presented in this exhibition show not only his influence on the art world, but also his role as a progressive thinker who explored the boundaries of artistic media. Visitors can expect experiments that go beyond photography alone, with influences of sound, film and three-dimensional structures highlighting the depth of his research. This exhibition offers an opportunity to explore the ongoing potential of Dibbets' oeuvre, referencing his pioneering work that continues to inspire.
