Hilton celebrates 50th anniversary of Lennon's Bed-in for Peace
Fifty years ago, spring 1969, John & Yoko Lennon made history with their legendary Bed-in for Peace at Hilton Amsterdam as a protest for world peace. This week, the Hilton on Apollolaan commemorates the special event with a photo exhibition.
On March 23, 1969, John Lennon and his bride Yoko Ono arrived in the evening at Hilton Amsterdam where they checked into room 902. Until their departure on March 29, the Lennons did not leave the bed. As a protest for world peace, the couple received journalists and photographers in their hotel room in order to make their message known worldwide. Their stay became world news and was followed in every corner of the world.
What happened in Room 902
In the lobby of Hilton Amsterdam you will find the exhibition "What happened in Room 902" . The narrative photo exhibition gives an impression of the events of the time and puts them in the context of that turbulent era, in which in Amsterdam the Provo movement dominated. A total of fifty iconic images by internationally renowned photographers Cor Jaring, Nico Koster, Govert de Roos, Claude Vanheye and the German Elmar Welge are presented in large format.
Opening hours
The exhibit "What Happened in Room 902" is open daily from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Admission is free.
