Chagall, Picasso & Mondrian at the Stedelijk
Since the beginning of the last century, Paris has been considered the art center of the world. At that time, famous artists flocked to Europe's largest metropolis. As an ode to those times, the Stedelijk Museum is exhibiting the work of artist-migrants Chagall, Picasso & Mondrian.
Marc Chagall, Pablo Picasso, Piet Mondrian and other known and unknown artists move to Paris in the first half of the last century. At that time Europe's largest metropolis and a city where freedom reigns, in many ways. There they must find their way in an increasingly polarizing society, in which freedom and openness are at odds with nationalism, xenophobia and anti-Semitism. In the land that is foreign to the artists, the artists come up with innovative work.
The exhibition is a great opportunity to see the work of the great modern masters in a different light, as well as to discover new artists. An exhibition based on the rich collection of the Stedelijk Museum, with work by more than 50 visual artists, photographers and graphic designers.
40 Works of art Chagall
For the first time in nearly 70 years, the Stedelijk is showing the vast Chagalls collection: 40 works, including eight iconic paintings, some restored especially for the exhibition.
