The shows during Carré Cirque are characterized by a quirky, energetic style of dizzying acrobatics that seem to transcend the limits of the human body. The performers communicate through explosive excesses in a universal body language, keeping both young and old on the edge of their seats.
Nouveau Cirque
This young theater movement, nouveau cirque, has its origins in the old circus acts of acrobats and trapeze artists. A new generation of performers, growing up in an urban environment filled with hip-hop and breakdance, brought a new "urban" perspective to these old circus acts as a means of self-expression. The physical acts always serve an overarching theme, supported by intense lighting and music arrangements. Other artistic styles are also used for this purpose, from classical theater dance to beatboxing.
In France, England, the United States and Australia, this form of physical theater is already an established movement. Carré now offers the Dutch public the chance to become acquainted with this genre through the most groundbreaking acts.
