From underground plays to groundbreaking dance performances, Amsterdam Fringe Festival returns in 2025 for its twentieth edition. The festival once again promises to be a spectacular celebration of artistic freedom, with 11 days of performance, theater and dance at more than 20 venues throughout the city.
In September 2025, Amsterdam will be home to the Amsterdam Fringe Festival - a vibrant stage for untamed, groundbreaking talent. For twenty years, Fringe has provided an incubator for creators who seek their voices off the beaten path. From September 4 to 14, the festival programs a bold mix of styles, languages, forms and genres.

What makes Fringe unique is the diversity of venues. Not only theaters, but also nightclubs, houseboats and unexpected city spots transform into temporary stages. From Amsterdam-Noord to Zuid, the festival spreads across the city like a creative ink blot. Visitors are invited to let go of their fixed cultural routines and immerse themselves in the unknown.
"Fringe is not a festival that you just watch - it is an experience that completely engulfs you and permanently changes your view of art."
The 20th edition promises to be extra festive. In addition to a host of performances by emerging local and international talent, the festival pays tribute to its rich history. Expect a mix of familiar Fringe chaos and new voices that dare to question the artistic landscape.
The festival has its origins in the world-famous Edinburgh Fringe Festival and shares the anarchic spirit of sister editions in New York, Adelaide and Dublin, among others. What they have in common? A deep-seated belief in the importance of independent art.
