Afrovibes Festival 2025 returns to Amsterdam from Oct. 2 to 11, opening this year in Amsterdam Zuidoost, at Bijlmer Parktheater. The festival is dedicated to the African diaspora, heritage, identity and artistic expression. The focus is on collaborations between African makers and the Netherlands, and exploring how identity and history take continuous forms.
The opening (Oct. 2 and 3) will take place at Bijlmer Parktheater, while subsequent programs will spread across Frascati and De Balie. Expect a mix of music, dance, theater, spoken word and conversations that explore themes such as the legacy of colonialism, cultural resilience and future generations.

Artists on the lineup include Gregory Maqoma, Vincent Mantsoe, Lorin Sookool, Chuma Sopotela, and Ibrah Silas Jackson - creators strongly rooted in their cultural identities who make art a medium for dialogue through performance.
Programs often last 90 minutes to 2 hours, sometimes shorter as part of a daytime festival. Tickets start from about €12 (opening Bijlmer) for evening performances.
What sets Afrovibes apart is the combination of artistic quality and social relevance. Not only are you entertained, you are invited to reflect on what remains, what is shared, and what is passed on. Themes such as heritage, vulnerability, and collective power resonate in the performances, but also in the conversations and master classes organized in parallel.
"Afrovibes makes you feel that art and heritage breathe together in every movement."
Venues are strategically chosen to be accessible to the Southeast district, while central venues such as Frascati participate to attract a wider audience. Thus, they build bridges between the neighborhood, the city, and the international network of African makers.
