Arie op de Hoek: Neighborhood pub, bar and bistro under one roof

You can find Arie op de Hoek in the Pijp in a corner building from 1876. It is a neighborhood cafe, bar and bistro all in one, set up as a modern version of the classic brown cafe, with a great terrace in front of the door where you can enjoy people watching. You can go there all day, from first coffee to late drinks, with a bistro menu full of comfort food.

Arie op de Hoek is one of those establishments where you can walk by all day and see something different happening all the time. The café sits on the corner of Ferdinand Bolstraat in De Pijp, in a historic building from 1876. Thanks to that corner location, you look out onto the street from almost anywhere, with the feel of an old-fashioned corner café that has belonged in the same spot for years.

Arie op de Hoek combines three functions under one roof: neighborhood café, bar and bistro. During the day, people slide in for coffee or a leisurely breakfast; later in the day it flows into lunch, dinner and drinks. The bistro menu focuses on European comfort food, without complicated fuss, but suitable for different times of the day.

The interior was designed by Studio Modijefsky, a firm known for translating a concept into visible details in the space. At Arie, this can be seen in the choice of warm materials and a layout reminiscent of a traditional brown café. There is space at the bar for impromptu drinks, but also plenty of tables where you can sit and eat quietly.

Since opening in 2022, Arie op de Hoek has been playing a part in the hospitality structure of De Pijp, a neighborhood known for its many cafes and restaurants. By breathing new life into the historic corner building with a contemporary neighborhood pub and bistro, the business hooks up with the tradition of the Amsterdam brown café, but in a form that fits with how people now go out to eat and drink.
