Clubs

On Amsterdam Now you will find an up-to-date overview of clubs in Amsterdam - from underground techno venues to clubs with broad programming of house, hip-hop and Latin.

Amsterdam's club scene has its own character: a combination of electronic music culture with a strong local base, venues in unusual buildings and offerings that run seven nights a week. For a current list of parties and events, also check out the Amsterdam calendar on AmsterdamNow.

Electronic and techno

Most of Amsterdam's club scene revolves around electronic music. Techno, house, drum & bass and experimental electronica all have established venues scattered across clubs in North, West and the center. A series of 24-hour licenses has increased the leeway for venues, translating into longer programming and a more flexible nightlife scene. Check out our overview of Amsterdam clubs for specific addresses and hours of operation.

Locations and premises

A distinctive feature of Amsterdam's club scene is the use of repurposed buildings. From underground bunkers to former factories and warehouses - warehouse-like interiors are a regular part of the club experience in the city. This gives some of the clubs an industrial character that differs from more traditional entertainment venues. North has developed in recent years as a new club area alongside the established concentration in Westerpark and downtown.

Hip-hop, Latin and R&B

In addition to the electronic scene, there is a solid array of clubs with programming focused on hip-hop, R&B and Latin. These can be found in the center, around Leidseplein and Rembrandtplein, and in a number of smaller venues scattered throughout the city. The crowd and door policies vary greatly from venue to venue - it pays to check beforehand what a night entails. See also the Event Amsterdam section on Amsterdam Now for an up-to-date overview.

LGBTQ+

Amsterdam has a visible LGBTQ+ club scene, concentrated around Reguliersdwarsstraat and Zeedijk. In addition to permanent clubs, there are regular parties and events in changing venues throughout the city. For a current overview, see the Amsterdam calendar on Amsterdam Now.

Practical

Most clubs in Amsterdam do not open until midnight and run until early morning. Entrance prices vary widely, from free entry to fixed ticket prices for larger nights. Buying in advance often saves waiting. The complete overview of clubs and nightlife in Amsterdam, including practical info and programming, can be found via the Amsterdam city guide on Amsterdam Now.
