Fort Nine began as a bakery, but the sandwich bar next door is not an afterthought - it is the place where bread really plays a leading role. You'll find them on Jan Evertsenstraat: the sandwich bar is open Wednesday to Sunday, in the morning from 08:00, for lunch around 11:00.

Their sourdough breads are the foundation: crispy crust, fluffy crumb, lots of flavor. Toppings vary seasonally - vegetables fermenting, meat pickling, combinations you think "would that work?" but usually surprise. There is also a located pizza oven for specials on the sourdough bread, so you don't get just another sandwich, but an experience.
The interior is informal: no fuss, but attention. Sitting outside is possible; inside is limited. Local customers, bread lovers and anyone who likes good lunch sits down. You notice they don't skimp on ingredients: taste comes first.
"A sandwich at Fort Nine is not a filler, but where craftsmanship happens on bread."
It's quieter during the week; on weekends, you'd better be on time because popularity is growing. And don't forget to ask about the specials - often they look like works of art, taste like comfort food.
