3×3 Street League: Basketball in the River District

The Rabo 3×3 Street League is the largest 3×3 basketball league in the Netherlands, spread over 29 cities and completely free. You play on the court in your own neighborhood, with a DJ in the background and real FIBA rules. Whoever wins their district will be at the NDSM Werf in June.

The Rabo 3×3 Street League is about more than just basketball. It gives young people from the neighborhood a chance to develop themselves, meet new people and become an active part of their own community. The initiative is part of the program of 3X3 Unites, which uses sports as a means for connection, personal growth and opportunities in the neighborhood. As such, the event fits perfectly with the dynamic and sporting energy of Amsterdam-Zuid.

The Netherlands is now among the absolute world leaders in 3×3 basketball. With Olympic champion Worthy de Jong as an inspiring example, more and more young people dream of a future on an international level. During the Street League, they literally get a stage in their own neighborhood, where talent and ambition come together on the asphalt.

What makes the competition extra special is the strong local involvement. Young people from Amsterdam-Zuid not only help out on the field, but also play an important role behind the scenes as so-called ‘3X3 Leaders’. They guide matches, coach participants and provide positive energy around the event. In this way, the Street League will grow into much more than a sports tournament: it will become a meeting place where young people take responsibility and build a strong neighborhood culture together.

“On the asphalt of Amsterdam-South, a new generation is growing up that is learning to win, cooperate and believe in its own talent.”

The rounds of play take place on multiple days and locations in the Rivierenbuurt. On Fridays, the U18 categories and 18+ teams will play on the Vechtstraat, while on Saturdays the younger teams will be in action on the Hendrick de Keyserplein. Teams collect points during the competition to qualify for the national finals during the 3×3 Festival at the NDSM Wharf in Amsterdam from June 19 to 21. There, participants will play on the same court as top international players and take street basketball to the highest level.

In a city where sports are increasingly about connection, inclusivity and talent development, the Rabo 3×3 Street League shows how powerful a basketball court can be. This is where not only games are created, but also opportunities, friendships and dreams.
