Shakerato, part of world's best cocktail bar, opens near Leidseplein

Shakerato, from the people behind the world's best cocktail bar Handshake, open new cocktail bar in the corner building of NH Hotels near Leidseplein. You come here for technique and atmosphere without the fuss: good light, good service, and drinks that keep you curious.

Shakerato sits near Leidseplein, but it doesn't feel like a "busy-pressure center." You step into a space that is tightly laid out: focus on the bar, on the glassware, on the rhythm of shaking and finishing. This is clearly a place where cocktails are not an afterthought, but the whole point.

The name is no accident: "shakerato" is also an Italian espresso shaker, and you can see that in the vibe. During the day (or early evening) it tends toward aperitivo: lighter, fresher, easier to drink through. Later, it becomes more pronounced and creative, with more "bar-night" energy and influences leaning toward Latin-inspired.

Behind Shakerato is Eric van Beek, who competed internationally with Handshake in Mexico City (named best bar in the world in 2024). You notice that kind of background not because someone comes to tell you, but because the level is in the details: pace behind the bar, control over ice, balance in sweet/sour/bitter, and the fact that your glass is never "almost right."

You notice it immediately: there is no throwing of stories here, but perfect relationships.

Practically, Shakerato is uncluttered: it is usually open Thursday to Sunday from 18:00 to 01:00. So this is not a "we just walk in after work on Tuesday" address, but it is a very strong option for date-night, a small celebration, or an evening when you want to pick one place and sit there properly.

What makes Shakerato extra attractive to locals: you don't have to be a cocktail nerd. If you say what you're in the mood for (soda, bitter, coffee, something smoky), they'll quickly steer you in the right direction, without a lesson, but with conviction. And if you do like nerdy: ask for their signature style and be surprised; this is one of those bars where "one round" rarely stays at one round.
