Photographer Sheila Rock's career can be called more than impressive. Over the past 50 years, the American celebrity photographer has immortalized just about the entire international pop scene. Her iconic photos, from punk to pop, have appeared in the world's most famous magazines.
"Some people think of punk as being downbeat," says Rock. "But to me, and to many others, it was a celebration of something exciting and positive," Rock said in an interview with Vogue.
Born in America, studied at Boston University, Rock moved to London in 1970. Her breakthrough came right with the birth of punk and new wave in the 70's and 80's where she provided well-known acts and bands such as The Sex Pistols, The Jam, Chrissie Hynd, The Clash and The Damned with iconic images for their record covers and interviews in well-known international magazines. After her period of punk bands, Sheila Rock widened her spectrum to pop music where she caught well-known artists such as Debbie Harry, Bob Marley, Sade, U2, David Bowie, The Cure, Duran Duran, Frankie Goes to Hollywood, Sting and A-Ha in front of her camera.
