Dijkreis, an interactive podwalk app that takes you on a journey of discovery along the 11-kilometer-long Waterland Sea Dike in Amsterdam-North. This unique experience introduces you to more than forty stories that bring the underexposed history of this area to life. From the app, you can listen to stories about whalers, water giants and shipbuilders, interwoven with the unique locations where these stories actually took place.

A Historical Exploration

The Waterlandse Zeedijk, which winds through Amsterdam North like a protective ribbon, has kept residents safe from the threats of the Zuiderzee for generations. The podwalk highlights how this dike stood the test of time, with stories of floods, devastation and wars that affected the region. Discover how this street eventually merged into the growing city of Amsterdam.

A Cultural Project of Meaning

Dijkreis is not just any project; it was developed on the occasion of the 750th anniversary of Amsterdam. The initiative was created in collaboration with several partners, including the City of Amsterdam and Museum Amsterdam North, in order to not only honor the past, but also inspire current residents and visitors.
