Cuypers, Berlage and the Amsterdam School Tour

The face of Amsterdam is largely defined by the architecture of Pierre Cuypers, Berlage and the Amsterdam School. Pierre Cuypers (1827-1921) is the great architect of the Rijksmuseum and the Central Station. With his neo-Gothic buildings, he breathed new life into architecture in the Netherlands in the 19th century.

That not everyone was enthusiastic about Pierre Cuypers' architectural style was no secret at the time. As a counter-reaction to Cuijpers' style, a number of his students together formed the Amsterdam School at that time.

What was so distinctive about the architecture of Cuijpers, Berlage and the Amsterdam School?
During the "Architecture Tour Cuypers, Berlage and the Amsterdam School" on May 12, you will experience a unique walk through Amsterdam along the beautiful architecture that largely determines the face of our city. And you will learn why the Amsterdam School was so opposed to Cuypers and Berlage.
