Visque, walhalla for seafood in bistro atmosphere

Visque on Willemsparkweg is the restaurant that brothers Bas and Menno opened because they missed such a place themselves. Fresh fish and seafood, French-inspired, with a menu that changes daily based on the catch. In the basement is a separate oyster bar as well.

On Willemsparkweg, in the heart of Old South, sits Visque: a bistro that feels like the dining room of someone with good taste. Wooden tables, quiet decor, no fuss to impress. What matters here is what's on the plate, and that's almost always something from the sea.

Behind Visque are brothers Bas and Menno. They opened the business in 2018 with a simple premise: build a place where they themselves would love to go. No big ambitions on paper, but a clear vision for the cuisine. French-inspired, with an emphasis on fresh fish and seafood, and a menu that is not fixed. What the catch offers that day helps determine what goes on the table. That requires chefs who know what they're doing, and you can tell.

The interior has something of a Parisian neighborhood bistro, but without the worn red benches and nicotine stains on the ceiling. The first floor is the restaurant itself, with an atmosphere that is relaxed without becoming casual. In the basement is the oyster bar, a separate space that can also be rented separately for private dinners or small parties. Two floors, two moods, but the same cuisine.

Visque has been running for years on a steady bevy of guests who return because it's simply good.

Willemsparkweg is a street that has always been a bit out there. No coffee shops on tap, no tourists, but residents who know what they want. Visque fits right in with that. It is not a restaurant screaming for attention. The place has been running for years on a steady bevy of guests who come back simply because it's good. That, in this town, is the best you can say about a restaurant.
