Morgan & Mees, fine place for lunch, drinks and terrace

In a monumental building from 1880, near the Jordaan, sits Morgan & Mees, a restaurant, cocktail bar and terrace where it is good to stay. And the best part: you don't have to stay there to eat or drink.

In a completely renovated, historic building on the border of the Jordaan and Old West, you'll find Morgan & Mees, a trendy hotel, restaurant and bar all in one. And what a one? For many residents Morgan & Mees is the living room of West. An ideal place to meet, eat and drink. In the stylish and timeless interior you look out over the courtyard garden while enjoying classic French and Mediterranean dishes with a modern twist. Already eaten? Then come hang out at the bar and indulge in unbeatable cocktails, local beer and the tastiest G&Ts.

Morgan & Mees revolves around an idea that sounds simple but is rarely well developed: a place for both the international traveler and the local resident who just wants a good evening. The concept has even been given names. Morgan stands for the global citizen, open and curious. Mees is the local Amsterdammer, down-to-earth and straightforward. Together they set the tone of the entire hotel. That's not a marketing story, you feel it as soon as you enter.

Behind the project are three founders. Myrthe Slotemaker brought in hospitality expertise. Roger Peetoom also owns beach club Republiek. Marius Haverkamp is a contractor and interior designer at the same time, which explains why the building looks so layered. He renovated the building while simultaneously determining what remained and what was added. The original wood floors are still there. So are the moldings on the walls. But next to them hang abstract artworks, and the lighting is contemporary. It works.

Morgan represents the global citizen, open and curious. Mees is the local Amsterdammer, down-to-earth and straightforward.

The building stands on the border of the Jordaan and Old West, in a street that in recent years has increasingly gained its own identity with nice restaurants and stores. A monumental building from 1880 that used to be quite something else, revived by people who know exactly what they want to put down. There is also a branch in Rotterdam, but the Amsterdam location has something that is hard to copy: that combination of neighborhood, building and the idea that Morgan and Mees both belong here.
