Pesca on Rozengracht calls itself a “theater of fish,” and that’s no exaggeration. There’s no menu hanging on the wall—because there isn’t one. Every day, the catch determines what’s served. When you arrive, you walk past an open raw bar, point to what you want to eat, and the rest takes care of itself. It’s a concept that’s been working for ten years, and once a month it’s scaled up into something bigger: the Gambashow.
The Gambashow is at the heart of what Pesca does. Up to 1,000 guests gather around one long table, and what’s served is fresh shrimp—in large quantities. Along with that: fresh oysters from the raw bar and wine that flows freely. It’s not a fancy dinner where you whisper about wine pairings. It’s boisterous, communal, and generous. Everyone eats the same thing, everyone sits together, and the evening revolves around that one dish whose name says it all.
The interior on Rozengracht was renovated in 2025: a new floor, a refreshed interior, and a robotic arm in the kitchen that operates the deep fryer. That last addition isn’t just for show—it’s for the calamari that comes out of that very same deep fryer. Technology serving the kitchen, not the guests. The restaurant is located in the Jordaan, on a street that has long been a mix of long-time residents, outdoor patios, and restaurants that know their place.

For its 10th anniversary in 2025, the Gambashow was held outdoors. The city’s longest table was set up on the Keizersgracht, seating 1,000 guests and featuring 10 BBQs. Anyone who hadn’t managed to get a ticket in time for a sold-out event could search for a golden ticket hidden somewhere in the city. The anniversary was a big celebration, but the concept remained the same: shrimp, oysters, and wine, shared with people you hadn’t met before.
