Daniela Germone and Dis Abhelakh on Dis Studio
On Amstelveenseweg, Daniela Germone and Dis Abhelakh run a design and interior design paradise. Upon entering Dis Studio, the spacious showroom immediately catches the eye. From impressive bookcases to natural stone tiles; everything in the field of interior design can be found there.
Daniela is from Italy, where she graduated as an architect. When she started working for the Italian interior design brand Boffi, she met her husband Dis. He too worked for Boffi and had his own showroom in Zeist. The spark struck and the two eventually decided to live together in Amsterdam. Here, in 2008, they set up Dis Studio together. A design agency, interior store and showroom all in one. A golden combination? According to Daniela, there is no doubt about it "Dis and I complement each other. I focus more on the big picture, he on the details." Daniela loved drawing immensely in her youth. "My father is hugely technical and so I was brought up on that.
I always enjoyed being busy with things like crafting." Her career started in Rome, then she eventually started working out of beautiful Milan.
Buying high-quality products pays off. It's no IKEA, but in return you get great stuff that lasts for years."
The 52-year-old architect traveled all over the world for her work for Boffi, even when she came to live in Zeist with her husband Dis. However, the arrival of their little daughter Ghita changed everything. "Traveling so much while having a child at home is not doable," Daniela said.
Exclusively Italian brands
Daniela and Dis sell only Italian-made pieces. Dis Studio is also the only point of sale in the Netherlands for products by the Italian design studio Boffi, known mainly for its kitchens. But at Dis Studio you can go for the furnishing of your entire home. From corner sofa to table lamp, from walk-in closet to tiled floor.
The old machine factory that houses Dis Studio is a whopping 450 square meters, and everything is spread over four floors. Besides having many products from the Boffi brand on display at Dis Studio, there is also a wide selection of products from Living Divani, Porro, Rimadesio and many more.
Besides having many products from the Boffi brand on display at Dis Studio, there is also a wide selection of products from Living Divani, Porro, Rimadesio and many more. When asked if design always comes with a high price, Daniela is quick to answer.
"It's no IKEA, but in return you get nice stuff that lasts for years. When I was about 20 I bought three lamps, now I'm 52 and I still have them. Buying high-quality products pays off."
Combining imperfection with sleek designs
According to Daniela, Dis Studio's strength lies in the use of different components. For example, Dis Studio works a lot with natural stone, and offers handmade Italian tiles. "It all doesn't have to be totally sleek. Combining perfection with sleek designs makes a house a home."
According to Daniela, what also sets Dis Studio apart from other brands is the option to "customize" everything. "German brands, for example, are much more strict. With us, if it is technically possible, it is possible to customize everything completely to your liking. The team at Dis Studio has grown a lot since 2008. From interior designers to technical draftsmen, all are part of the studio. Dis and Daniela have also developed a large clientele in recent years. What's the reason for that? "We have always continued to work the same. Now we are recognized by our style."
At Dis Studio, you can go for complete furnishing of your home. From countertops to dining room chairs, everything ingredients are present to transform your home into a true paradise for interior lovers with the help of Dis and Daniela's expertise.
A bond with the customer is the foundation
According to Daniela, the bond with a client is the basis for any collaboration. "It's someone's home. Someone needs to live there with their family, be able to have friends over and feel completely at home." The team at Dis Studio frequently interacts with the client to get a good idea of all the requirements and wishes.
"You get incredibly close to people, it's very intimate." Dis Studio sometimes works with the same client for years, taking care of the entire interior. However, Dis Studio also sells individual accessories and furniture pieces. "We're also just a store. If you just need a lamp or a table, you can also come to us just fine," Daniela said.
Set up at your own pace
There is no doubt that the pieces offered by Dis Studio are not on par with the products of well-known furniture giants in terms of price. According to Daniela, however, this need not be a problem at all.
"Of course everyone has a different budget. It's a fun challenge to work with a client to see what the possibilities are. Young people with a smaller budget, for example: they can choose to furnish everything in small steps. For example, they start with a sofa or even a lamp. That way you collect beautiful pieces step by step, which also last a long time."
Dis Studio has everything you need to furnish your room with a beautiful Italian interior. Dis Studio's specialized team is ready to transform your room into a home.
