Thomas van Santvoort is the new chef at De Juwelier

De Juwelier has a new chef: Thomas van Santvoort, known from Flicka* in Kerkdriel until the end of 2025. It's one of those switches that if you're often in starred establishments you feel immediately: same level, different signature.

Flicka closes end of December 2025 because the lease will not be renewed - a deliberate, neat exit after eight years. Van Santvoort and Merlijn van den Bosch announced it in May 2025, with exactly the tone you would hope for: finishing with dignity, with pride in what was there.

And now the landing in Amsterdam has been announced: Van Santvoort is the new chief at The Jeweler*. This is not "new challenge" PR, but serious cuisine where the star is already set and the bar is set high every day.

De Juwelier is the à-la-carte restaurant of the team behind Restaurant 212 (Richard van Oostenbrugge and Thomas Groot). So don't expect stiff fare, but modern French basics with lots of energy: bistro feel, but with star precision.

Flicka closed not because it had to, but because it was time - and you take that attitude into your next kitchen.

What makes this interesting for people who already know The Jeweler: a change of chief at this level rarely means "everything else," but almost always new accents. Think rather: different signature in sauces, new combinations on the menu, just a little more excitement in dishes that are already running fast. His exact plans have not yet been shared, but the fact that he is stepping in here says it all: this is a continuation at star pace, not a stopover.
