No events may take place in the Netherlands until June 1 to prevent the spread of the corona virus. Various websites and social media are calling for people to save Koningsdag 2020 by signing the online petition "Save Koningsdag 2020. In this way, people hope to move King's Day to Aug. 31, the day on which the very first, national celebration of the Royal Family was organized in 1885. Back then, people celebrated Princess Day to mark the fifth birthday of Princess Wilhelmina. Princess Day, like Queen's Day, was the precursor to King's Day as we know the national celebration today.
"In these difficult times, let's also have something we can look forward to. Let's not cancel everything, but simply just push it forward," the initiators write on Facebook."

"King's Day remains one of the most beautiful days of the year and above all a day we don't want to miss. Let's repeat history together and celebrate it once again on Aug. 31!"
