The Amsterdam Water Games at the Marineterrein
The Marineterrein was closed to the public for many years. The beautiful waterfront area near Het Scheepsvaartmuseum, NEMO, Mediatic and Hannekes Boom promises to become the new hotspot of Amsterdam. With the arrival of restaurants and cafes such as Scheepskameel, Club House and Homeland, among others, the site is a lively environment where you can relax, sunbathe and swim in the Dijkgracht.
During the weekend of August 23-25, the Amsterdam Water Games will take place at the Marineterrein. A splashing summer weekend filled with special water sports, blood-curdling races, water science, live music, delicious food and free swimming for young and old. During the free festival you can take part in crazy water games such as X-Diving, Beach Water Polo, Synchronized Swimming, the Open Mokum Bommetje Championship and build your own soapbox for the soapbox derby.
All under supervision
The Amsterdam Water Games is for everyone. Young and old. No experience? No worries. The organization does not send anyone into the water unprepared and there is supervision everywhere. Want to participate in the games prepared? In June and July there are several clinics and useful workshops you can participate in for free.
Why Water Games?
Water is part of the Marine Park. Traditionally, the area has been surrounded by water and connected to the rest of the world through shipping. Today, organizations at the Marineterrein are investigating how to bring more greenery and more coolness into the city through smarter use of water. For example, by creating blue-green roofs where water buffering and greening go hand in hand. They are also working on improving water quality in the city and using water for alternative traffic flows.
