On May 5, we celebrate the surrender of the German army and the liberation of our country. Throughout the city, theaters, churches and museums host events and Amsterdam gathers at festivals and neighborhood parties to celebrate freedom together.

Freedom Meals

A special way to participate in this day is by attending a freedom meal. For example, the American Hotel on Leidseplein is organizing a lunch, you can attend in The Loft at the A'DAM Tower right with your own brought dishes to share with other attendees, and the Muziekgebouw aan 't IJ is hosting a composers' dinner. On the official May 4 and 5 website lists all freedom meals in Amsterdam.

Liberation Day Festivals

Music, dancing, togetherness and freedom. These are the best liberation festivals in Amsterdam:

Free West I Westerpark 1, Amsterdam

Amsterdam Covenant | Gardens of West, Amsterdam

Liberation Day Gay Monument | Westermarkt, Amsterdam

Liberation Dance Festival | Museumplein, Amsterdam

Children's Liberation Festival | Vondelpark Outdoor Theater

Concert on the Amstel

As every year, a wonderful concert will be organized on the Amstel River opposite Royal Theater Carré, which will be attended by none other than the royal couple. The May 5 concert once again promises to be a musical spectacle, with performances by great National artists and musicians.
