The building at Elementenstraat 25 once served as an underground club, one of the city’s early rave venues. Now it’s home to AMAZE, an immersive audiovisual experience spanning more than 3,000 square meters that you can explore at your own pace. No display cases, no explanatory signs. Instead, there are eight rooms, each creating its own world with lasers, lights, sound, and smoke.
Achter het concept staat ID&T, het bedrijf dat al meer dan dertig jaar de Nederlandse dance scene vormgeeft. Awakenings, Sensation, Defqon.1, Mysteryland, DGTL: de namen die miljoenen festivalgangers over de vloer hebben getrokken. Met AMAZE nemen ze diezelfde festival-grade techniek en zetten die neer als vaste attractie. Geen line-up, geen podium, maar wel dezelfde laser- en lichtinstallaties die normaal op een hoofdpodium staan.
What sets AMAZE apart from a light show or an art installation is the interaction. Sensors and cameras track where you walk and how you move, and the space reacts accordingly. Smoke rises, light shifts with you, and sound changes direction. Each space has its own atmosphere and theme, structured as a series of separate worlds that you pass through one by one. It feels less like a museum and more like a stage set where you yourself become part of the show.
The tour lasts about an hour and consists of seven to eight themed zones, each with its own laser and light shows and interactive multimedia installations. No two areas are alike: while one overwhelms you with bright colors and loud beats, the next is quieter and darker. At the end of the route, the AMAZE Lounge awaits, where you can relax with a cocktail and recover from what you’ve just experienced.
Het pand met zijn ravegeschiedenis krijgt zo een nieuwe functie, zonder de industriële ruwheid helemaal te verliezen. Wie de vloer verlaat, komt zo’n uur later weer naar buiten met natte handen van de rook en oren die nog nasuizen. Precies het gevoel dat ID&T na dertig jaar festivals organiseren feilloos weet op te wekken, alleen dan zonder tent en zonder wachten op een act.
