Sometimes you wonder how a place can be big and intimate at the same time. IJland does just that. The location in Noord, near the former NDSM wharf site, has space for 1,100 visitors but never feels like an anonymous sports hall. The industrial-chic interior, multiple spaces including the Bay House Location, and direct views of the IJ create an atmosphere you don't find everywhere. And the programming in 2026 shows they're serious: more than 11 events in the first few months of the year.
The names that pop up most often on the program say enough about the direction. Happy Feelings is a permanent resident of the stage and is considered the venue's most booked act. Philou Louzolo is in that same category, as are Merel Helderman, Dennis Quin and Tonno Disko. For house fans, Todd Terry, a true legend in that genre, returns for Todd Terry & Friends in a Daytime Spring Edition. The combination of established names and room for different genres is exactly what makes IJland a versatile venue.

The location profiles itself as a ‘waterfront canvas,’ and that is no exaggeration. From the grounds, you look straight across the IJ toward downtown. That location makes something of an evening: water on your one side, the skyline on your other, and inside a sound that can go from house to dancehall to hip-hop depending on which weekend you come. The Bay House Location is its own subspace within the grounds, suitable for smaller programming or corporate events. Thus, IJland can simultaneously be a large festival venue and offer an intimate club night.
You get on the boat, the water passes, and Noord welcomes you with a program that runs from house to dancehall to hip-hop.
IJland is accessible from downtown via the ferry across the IJ, which gives its own ritual to an evening here. You get on the boat, the water passes, and Noord welcomes you. The combination of location, programming and atmosphere makes this an address that more Amsterdammers deserve to know. Not for nothing is it already running at full capacity.
