Imagine this: you’re standing in the dark with a golf club, your white shirt glows purple, and somewhere ahead of you, a 3D sculpture of KISS looms. That’s the concept behind GlowGolf at the Hollywood Café on Buikslotermeerplein. The course has ten holes, all illuminated by black light, all themed around the world of music. Remixes of well-known artists play as you play. It’s not serious golf—and that’s exactly the point.
The course is located inside the Hollywood Café, a large dining and entertainment complex with a bar and restaurant. The musical theme of GlowGolf revolves around three big names: KISS is featured in all its glory, Elvis Presley has a hole dedicated to him, and Bob Marley is also represented with his own 3D sculpture. Each of the ten holes has its own unique character, and the combination of black light, music, and those sculptures makes it an experience you won’t find at a typical mini-golf course. A maximum of six players are allowed on the course at a time, so it never feels crowded.
The space itself is completely darkened. That might sound uncomfortable, but in practice, it actually creates a world of its own. Clothes light up, sneakers glow, and the sculptures stand out against the darkness. You keep track of your score using the GlowGolf Score App. You’re allowed a maximum of ten strokes per hole; otherwise, you’ll get twelve points on your scorecard. If you still can’t figure out who won after ten holes, at least you’ll have a great conversation starter at the bar.
Each ticket includes a drink, and after your round of golf, just head over to Hollywood Café for schnitzel, burgers, or satay.
Buikslotermeerplein isn’t the first place that comes to mind when you think of a night out, but GlowGolf definitely fits right in. The Hollywood Café has plenty of space, the metro gets you there quickly, and the combination of golf and dinner afterward makes for a full evening rather than just half an hour of entertainment. Children ages four and up are welcome. But to be honest, it’s just as much fun for adults.
