Leonardo Pacenti has had this building on his mind for fifteen years. The corner building at Lindengracht 63 was first an ice cream parlor, then a pizzeria that also went by the name Capri. So that name isn’t some marketing gimmick—it’s simply what the Jordaan neighborhood has called this building for seventy years. Now Pacenti has been able to take it over, and the result is Capri Enoteca e Cucina: an Italian restaurant and bar set to open its doors in early September 2026.
Four people are behind the business. Pacenti is the founder and head owner; Maud Moody is a co-owner of Toscanini and has been involved since its founding in 1985. The two new faces are Susan van der Sande and Bobby Oudshoorn, both co-owners of Toscanini and soon to be co-owners of Capri as well. They already work at Toscanini, but here they’ll have their own stage. Two restaurants, fifty meters apart, on the same street.
The building hadn’t been renovated for more than fifteen years when Pacenti took it over. A lot of work has been done: fire safety upgrades, insulation, a new kitchen, and new restrooms. The new kitchen features a Rosval stove with rubber-free drawers—an investment that shows this is a serious kitchen, despite the informal setting. And the informal atmosphere is intentional: no table linens, few reservations, and a faster turnover. No formal table service—just pull up a chair at the bar for a glass of wine with a bite to eat, or simply order a plate of pasta and then head out again.

The restaurant is located in the Jordaan, on one of the neighborhood’s busiest streets. Toscanini has been a fixture on Lindengracht for 41 years, and Capri builds on that legacy without becoming a carbon copy. Fifty to sixty seats, no outdoor seating, a historic corner building. The Jordaan has plenty of restaurants, but a place that’s borne the same name for seventy years and is now coming back to life: that’s something else entirely.
