There are those places in the city where you immediately know you're in the right place. Eatery Schotsheuvel in Banstraat is such a place. Right behind the Concertgebouw, in the middle of Oud-Zuid where people know each other, this eatery sits quietly. No flashy sign, no hype. Just a classic Amsterdam eatery that does exactly what it promises.<\/h2>\n

The history is simple and actually beautiful. Original owner Maarten van Belkom (known from restaurants Wijmpje Beukers<\/a> and The Singing Swan) decided in the summer of 2024 to transfer the space to a young entrepreneurial team. Not selling, but making it available, with confidence that something good would come of it. Marit, one of the new owners, took up the gauntlet. Together with her team, she established her own concept, rooted in what an eatery should really be: a place for the neighborhood, not for the guidebook.<\/p>\n

The cuisine has a Dutch, European and bistro signature. That may sound abstract, but in practice it means: hearty, recognizable dishes without frills. Think traditional Dutch and European preparations, complemented by French-inspired bistro elements. Accessible, hearty, without the need for a dictionary. It's gastropub cuisine doing its best, and you can taste it. The atmosphere does the rest. There's a heated terrace, the interior exudes Amsterdam individuality, and the opening hours give away what it's all about: dinner and drinks, nothing more.<\/p>\n

Maarten van Belkom passed on his eatery for a reason, and Marit and her team seized that opportunity. The result is an eatery that feels like it's always been there, familiar and fuss-free. The neighborhood benefits. And frankly, so does the rest of the city.<\/p>\n
