Inside Weinlokal Stern immediately feels like a cross between bistro and wine bar: casual, but clearly with ambition. The establishment sits in the former premises of restaurant Breda, an address already known for good food. Now the focus is entirely on German cuisine and wine culture, with a menu that goes far beyond the standard image of bratwurst and beer.<\/h2>\n

In the kitchen is chef Luke de Jong, who, along with owners Mo Moody and Chanan Wisse, is committed to serious German cuisine with a modern slant. Regional classics like currywurst and Saumagen pop up on the menu, but made with good produce and care in preparation. There is also room for other traditional and seasonal preparations from different German regions.

The wine list is a story in itself. Weinlokal Stern focuses heavily on German wine producers and pours many German wines and sect, from familiar names to less predictable regions. That focus does not come out of the blue: the business is supported by the entrepreneurs behind Ship's Camel, who have already made their name with a wine-centric approach. You can taste that experience in the selection and pairing with the food.<\/p>\n
