The 19th-century national monument, with its large central hall and rows of aquariums, is one of the oldest working aquariums in the world. For the past five years, it closed for a major restoration and renovation. Now that that restoration is nearly complete, attention is shifting to its contents: live marine life and a new exhibit on water.<\/h2>\n<p>With the campaign \"Open the new Aquarium together with ARTIS,\" Natura Artis Magistra is involving Amsterdam residents and other visitors directly in that completion. The campaign is simple but visual: individuals and organizations can symbolically donate liters of water. Those donated liters represent the filling of the renovated aquariums as well as making possible the educational presentation that goes along with it.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-79875 size-large\" title=\"aquarium artis1\" src=\"https:\/\/www.amsterdamnow.com\/app\/uploads\/aquarium-artis1-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"aquarium artis1\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.amsterdamnow.com\/app\/uploads\/aquarium-artis1-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.amsterdamnow.com\/app\/uploads\/aquarium-artis1-600x400.jpg 600w, https:\/\/www.amsterdamnow.com\/app\/uploads\/aquarium-artis1-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.amsterdamnow.com\/app\/uploads\/aquarium-artis1-18x12.jpg 18w, https:\/\/www.amsterdamnow.com\/app\/uploads\/aquarium-artis1-400x267.jpg 400w, https:\/\/www.amsterdamnow.com\/app\/uploads\/aquarium-artis1-500x333.jpg 500w, https:\/\/www.amsterdamnow.com\/app\/uploads\/aquarium-artis1.jpg 1300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Several new underwater habitats and species will return to the tanks in the restored building. Visitors will once again walk past live aquariums in the historic central hall, while at the same time being drawn into a story about ecosystems and biodiversity.
