The IJ-Hallen on the NDSM Wharf offers a unique experience for those who want to shop vintage without going out of town. This monthly flea market is held in huge industrial sheds, which makes it instantly recognizable: wide spaces with high ceilings and raw concrete floors, a setting that suits the raw look of the NDSM wharf. The atmosphere is energetic and lively, partly due to the large number of stalls - sometimes as many as 750 - where a variety of second-hand items can be found.<\/h2>\n

The offerings are very diverse. From vintage clothes and accessories to antique furniture, vinyl records and other curiosities, everything is offered by private sellers and small entrepreneurs. The market originated small in 1994, but over the years it grew into the largest event of its kind in Europe. This makes it an important venue for lovers of recycling and sustainability.<\/p>\n

The animation of the market arises mainly from the large crowd: thousands of visitors per event who search among the stalls for unique items. In addition, the industrial environment contributes to a special experience: the rough constructions and the large surface provide space to quietly wander around and discover special objects.<\/p>\n

Visitors can spend an entire day there browsing for items that are often hard to find elsewhere. In doing so, the flea market also plays a role in supporting the local community around the NDSM wharf by bringing people together and contributing to more sustainable consumption.<\/p>\n\n
